Redefining Hope in the Face of Climate Trauma and Climate Grief
Carolyn and author, climate activist, and ecopsychologist Zhiwa Woodbury discuss the formation of trauma and its manifestations in climate chaos as well as all of the emotions that are stirred as we face the withering of our planet, especially grief. As we become willing to face these realities, we must redefine hope, not as a passive stance of mindlessly waiting for someone or something to fix the predicament, but responding with action, community, passion, a willingness to bear witness to suffering and make life easier for all living beings. In the process, we embrace a different kind of hope that does not depend on outcome but rather on our commitment to be fully engaged.

Spring Into Spring!
Spring is about rebirth, renewal, growth and above all, balance. Today's show focuses on removing the layers of winter, both physically as well as mentally, and choosing which seeds to sow.
Spring is the perfect time to take stock of our lives and to choose what it is we want to grow in ourselves, our relationships, our lives and the world at large. Once we know exactly what it is we want (hint, be specific!) then we know exactly which seeds to plant. If we merely plant the seeds of "Peace" or "Abundance" we might get a different variety of peace or abundance than we realize! It's your job to specifically pick the crop you wish to sow!
Spring is also about balance, and the realization that life is not meant to be lived in a total state of balance. Look at the seasons! Only two times a year do we have perfectly balanced days and nights! We are, and are only supposed to be, in balance for certain, brief yet glorious moments in time. Realizing that our chaotic, crazy lives are perfect when they are out of balance allows us to be more present, and to recognize the beauty of the moments when they are in balance.
Recognize the beautiful moments of serendipity, balance and joy, and then let them go, realizing that they will cycle back around to you in time!

Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour with Mariam Massaro

Saturday Apr 01, 2017
Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #255 we feature songs and compelling improvisations from the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, celtic harp, native flute, acoustic 6- and 12-string guitars and baritone ukulele, Craig Harris on congas and balaphone and Bob Sherwood on piano. Recorded live at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts, we begin with the gently swirling and mystical “Oh The Glory Of The Morning” featuring beautiful vocals and harp from Mariam. “They’re Holding Strong” goes out to the water protectors of North Dakota and is led by Mariam’s powerful ukulele and Craig’s driving congas. This piece segues neatly into the rocking “Victory”, a visionary, psychedelic extension of the theme of devotion and support to the water protectors. “Grandmother Regina” praises the grandmother who refused to leave Standing Rock, and is a lovely, gentle, powerful folk meditation led by Mariam on acoustic guitar and effortless, narrative vocal as she tells this story of female grace and courage. Next up is an imaginative reading of Mariam’s pretty “Burning Ember” from her 2012 cd “Smooth Sailin’ Love Songs” featuring cascading, rain-like piano runs from Bob under Mariam’s yearning vocal. We then segue into today’s final piece, the psychedelic, electronically enhanced “Can I Be Your Friend Today”, built on a series of chords initiated by Mariam on ukulele and adopted into low, forceful piano figures from Bob.

Sheryl Glick host of Healing From Within interviews Arjuna Ardagh co-author along with John Gray a leading relationship expert and author of Men are From Mars Women are From Venus with their co-authored book Conscious Men which guides a man to look within and discover his purpose and mission; to be in touch with his feelings, but not ruled by his feelings and to follow his own path and destiny. Arjuna said “We wrote this book together through hours of dialogue at John’s home in Mill Valley . Some days we would be up with the sunrise go for a walk with John’s dog and be energized for the entire day…At the same time we were creating a book that we hope will serve many people.. that is Conscious Dharma at work: doing what you love out of a sense of mission.. Initially rediscovering your sense of purpose or “Conscious Dharma” may be a challenging process: we may be overwhelmed panicked and need to take small steps. We also face the forces that still have some control over how we are living our lives.”

A Conversation with Suzanne Lyons
If we could learn to live in a more cooperative way with ourselves and the planet our civilization could quickly solve many of our great problems. People must learn how to live less violently. If not we are done for personally, in our relationships, and globally.
Problems are at all scales; from the global “war on terror” to our polarized congress, to our personal conflicts and the dysfunctions they produce. Humanity urgently needs to develop real solutions and to move past constant conflict, polarization, and confrontation. Unless we all learn how to cooperate, and soon, we are done for; our own violent, competitive urges and training will destroy us all.
If we really want our world to change, we will begin by changing our children, and learning from how we do that. I know of no better way to begin this process than by teaching our kids about the survival and creative value of cooperation – and there is no better way to do this than by helping them learn the games that Suzanne teaches about.
In this conversation Suzanne and Dr. Miller explore what science has taught us about the effect the games we play as children has had on us. They also discuss games that don’t teach us to compete (where somebody has to be the “Looozerrr”) but to cooperate. There is even a version of musical chairs you will learn that makes people feel closer rather than excluded.
You will learn about her website, cooperativegames.com, a resource for games, and about her latest book, The Cooperative Games Bullying Prevention Program, that clearly makes the case for using these games to prevent aggression in young children as well as nurture their innate drive to care and cooperate.
Suzanne Lyons is the founder of CooperativeGames.com, an educator and author who specializes in integrated science and climate change education. Her textbook Conceptual Integrated Science is sold internationally. It is within the context of a desire to create teaching materials relevant to the challenges of the global community that Suzanne became interested in teaching about cooperation. Cooperative games are games that emphasize the joy of playing together rather than competition. The games and other forms of cooperative play exist for all ages. Playing together rather than against each other is an option for anyone of any age at any time. Suzanne’s latest book is The Cooperative Games Bullying Prevention Program. It makes the case for using the games to prevent aggression in young children as well as nurture their innate drive to care and cooperate. Suzanne believes in cooperation. Play which promotes cooperation is an idea for our troubled times with wide ranging benefits. They can help with bullying prevention, fostering sustainability and helping each individual enjoy more peaceful and healthy personal relationships.

Warrior Goddess - Heatherash Amara
It is a time for Women... "Warrior energy is our power: focus, dedication, purpose, determination. When we harness our warrior energy we are confident, clear, and bring 100 percent of ourselves to each action. Goddess energy is our creative flow: unconditional love, pleasure, passion, wisdom. When we claim our goddess energy we live in joyful self-acceptance, self-respect, and listen to our innermost knowing."
My first name is HeatherAsh; a combo of my birth name, Heather, and my nickname for many years, Ash. Ash came along when I first starting facilitating fire walks, and reminds me of the energy of the phoenix rising from the ashes, and the power all of us have to transform from the inside out. I prefer to be called HeatherAsh, though if that is too much of a mouthful you can call me Ash, as some of my closest friends do. In 2001 in Berkeley, California, with the help of a fabulous community, I founded Toci – The Toltec Center of Creative Intent, a non-denominational religious organization based in the wisdom of the Toltec and The Four Agreements. Over the past fifteen years I’ve taught workshops and apprenticeships and trained teachers, and I look forward to many more years of sharing.
