Friday Aug 01, 2025
"The Science of Revenge” with James Kimmel
Scarlett’s guest is James Kimmel, author of "The Science of Revenge." James has joined Choose Love as one of our newest advisors. His groundbreaking research has uncovered something that could revolutionize how we understand and address conflict in our schools and communities—that revenge operates as a powerful addiction in the human brain, one that most people don't even recognize they have.
This discovery has profound implications for educators, parents, and anyone working to create safer, more compassionate environments for children. James's work is helping us understand why traditional approaches to discipline and conflict resolution often fail, and more importantly, it's giving us new tools to break cycles of retaliation before they escalate.
As we integrate these insights into Choose Love programming, we're not just teaching students to manage their emotions—we're helping them understand and overcome one of the most destructive patterns in human behavior. James's research is showing us that when we address revenge addiction at its root, we can create lasting change that transforms not just individuals, but entire communities.

Trauma is a Universal Part of the Human Experience
Scarlett Lewis and her mom, Maureen, are back at the Blue Colony Diner in Newtown, CT discussing forgiveness. Trauma is a universal part of the human experience, and helping kids develop the emotional intelligence to face their pain with curiosity rather than shame or avoidance could be life-changing. When children (and adults) learn to explore their pain, they can transform it into self-awareness, resilience, and even compassion for others. Forgiveness makes you stronger because when you forgive you take your power back!
