Leaving a Greener Legacy: Choices for Natural Burial
Guest Ann Porto, Psy.D. Volunteer Board Member, Funeral Consumers AllianceWith people becoming more environmentally and economically conscious in their everyday life purchasing decisions, such as food and energy, there is also a growing interest in greener end-of-life decisions, such as home vigils and green burials. By its purest definition, green burial is the interment of the body of a dead person directly in the soil, in a manner that allows the body to be naturally recycled. Green burial is also achieved by avoiding the toxic process of embalming and simply placing the body in a biodegradable coffin or shroud and burying the body in a natural setting. Naturally-landscaped cemeteries are ideal places for walking, spiritual contemplation and the discovery of intriguing stories, which will become evident as this episode goes story walking through Glenwood Cemetery and endeavors to alleviate the fear of Death.Guest Ann Porto, Psy.D. is a semi-retired clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist with over 35 years of experience in Rhode Island. She is a volunteer board member of the Rhode Island organization that represents the Funeral Consumers Alliance (FCA). As a member of the FCA she educates as a public speaker on the topic of consumer rights, environmentally sustainable green burials and home vigils. Dr. Porto speaks about the importance of planning ahead for the inevitable, and how the alliance, as a free public resource, can provide recommendations that will save us time, energy and money. She and the other board members monitor the funeral industry’s compliance with government and health standards. They also advocate for consumer rights. In addition, Dr. Porto is ordained as a lay non-denominational minister in the lineage of Mary Magdalene with the Sisterhood of the Emerald Fire in RI. She is the founder of Sacred Soul Journs and offers herself in service as an experienced meditation practitioner and coach, a medium, and a “qualified” energy medicine practitioner of Therapeutic Touch, Reiki and Laying-on of hands. Furthermore, Dr. Porto is a Hope Hospice volunteer and has taken courses in hospice, palliative, home vigils and assists with final wishes. Dr. Porto is passionate about green burial options and will talk about how loving our earth is rapidly becoming a more integral part of the funeral planning process.INFORMATIONAL RESOURCES:Story Walking Photo Blog: Cemetery Story Walk - https://netwalkri.com/blog/f/cemetery-story-walkGreen Burial Council: www.greenburialcouncil.orgFuneral Consumers Alliance: www.funerals.orgCremation Association of North America: www.Cremationassociation.orgTo Find a death doula/funeral guide in the USA and Canada: www.homefuneralalliance.orgSacred Soul Journs https://www.sacredsouljourns.com/

Full Transparency Part 2
Can you share a body? No. Jesus says minds are joined bodies do not. You can't even share a body that starts to loosen up the definition of interpersonal relationships because if you only share a purpose in your mind, then you can't even share bodies, then you really see how this whole thing is starting to loosen up, because when our bodies accept concrete representations of the belief in private minds and private thoughts. It would make no sense. You know, to talk about a body without a mind. And yet, when you forgive Jesus says you must overlook the body and the mind of your brother. I love how he says that when you forgive you have to overlook not just the body, but the body and the belief in the private mind. You have to overlook the body and the belief in private thoughts. This is how deep this goes, you can't forgive somebody just by overlooking their body. The Holy Spirit already overlooks the effects, but he says you have to overlook the mind and the body. That's why when I get all these questions, why did Ramana Maharshi get a tumor or why did Ken Wapnick die of cancer in the eye. The body doesn't actually have a diagnosis of disease status, why Jesus tells us sickness is of the mind, it's not about the body, he says don't ask the Holy Spirit to heal the body why because the body is not sick. It's the mind, that is believing in private minds and private thoughts, that's the sick mind. Why, because God didn't create private thoughts. God doesn't create private minds. God creates the mind of Christ in the mind of God and its pure spirit and this is nothing to do with secrets or private thoughts. So, when you are to overlook that some people may say, Well, can my next body and Ramana Maharshi his body they weren't real anyway. Well, neither were their private minds, either. Neither was the mind of Plato, or Socrates neither was the mind of Hitler or Mussolini neither was the mind of Mother Teresa or Saint Francis. You see how radical these teachings are it's teaching you, that if you're perceiving the world, a fragmented world. You must believe in a private mind. And that's the only way you can perceive this fragmentation at the perception of the fragmentation.

Radical Transformational Leadership: What does this imply? Guest Speakers: Martine Watkins and Shebreh Kalantari-Johnson
Shaping Democracy with Integrity
We invite you to a discussion with Shebreh Kalantari -Johnson and Martine Watkins.
Shebreh Kalantari-Johnson has lived in Santa Cruz County for the past 20 years. She is a candidate for Santa Cruz City Council. Join us to explore how her work has built multi-sector partnerships to address complex social justice issues such as substance use, mental health, criminal justice reform, immigration rights, homelessness, early care and education and more and brought over $30 million dollars into her community.
Martine Watkins has dedicated her career to public service. She is currently a Santa Cruz City Council member. Let’s learn how Martine is builds consensus, and how she effectively champions issues that matter to everyone- addressing climate change, health care, early childhood development.
Martine and Shebreh see Democracy as a part of change, locally and in the world:
To really embrace how we at a local level impact the global conversation as it relates to climate change; a lot of our cities are contributing to carbon emissions, how we as city policy makers are impacting that
At the local level with democracy, leaders are so much more accessible to residents which feels great during this difficult time. We need leaders connected to our communities.
Individualistic ‘freedoms’ are often related to our preferences, and hinder our global freedom/ We see ourselves as part of a species, where our very existence is interdependent with others: our freedom is interdependent.
Pivotal moment in history where we have an opportunity to majorly transform what was already under way but accelerated. They are working on Democracy as transparent and authentic inclusion, through concrete action.
They will talk about how a resilient community overcomes hardships, meets community needs, and maintains lasting health. Health in All Policies (HiAP) is a conceptual frame which requires us to look at every decision we make through the lens of health, equity and sustainability. As we recover, we can reinforce our city’s resilience and ability to adapt.

Vitamin D - Powering Your Immune System -- Carolyn Dean MD ND
While the world waits for a definitive treatment, cure, or vaccine for COVID-19, studies have shown a significant correlation between a low level of vitamin D in the blood and a greater risk of infection. Vitamin D deficiency has now been shown to increase susceptibility to COVID-19 and increathe risk of COVID-19 severity, including ICU admission and death. Conversely, other published studies have also shown
those with higher vitamin D levels (over 30 ng/ml or 75 nmol/L) have a reduced risk of severe symptoms and death due to COVID-19. In fact, an analysis of over 190,000 Americans found that having vitamin D levels of at least 50 ng/ml resulted in a 53% lower positivity rate than those whose levels were less than 20 ng/ml! The first-published randomized controlled trial on vitamin D and COVID-19 found that adding vitamin D to the standard treatment nearly eliminated ICU admissions and did eliminate deaths.
These scientific facts, based on research supported by GrassrootsHealth and other clinical research groups, should have your full and complete attention. HOWEVER, increasing vitamin D supplementation is not, in and of itself, a solution.
Magnesium and Vitamin D Metabolism
"While many people are beginning to realize the amazing health benefits that vitamin D has to offer in the prevention of disease, they may not be getting the full benefits from vitamin D without also supplementing their diets with magnesium, which is a vital nutrient that works synergistically with vitamin D," says Dr. Carolyn Dean, author of The Magnesium Miracle.
Over the past decade, Dr. Carolyn Dean has been educating the public on the role of magnesium in vitamin D metabolism. Too much vitamin D can deplete magnesium and cause magnesium deficiency symptoms. The amount of magnesium required to process high blood levels of Vitamin D might contribute to more migraines, heart palpitations, AFib, and insomnia when they take vitamin D.
Magnesium is so important in vitamin D metabolism that optimum levels of storage vitamin D and magnesium are much more effective in producing active vitamin D than high dose vitamin D. The paper “Magnesium, Vitamin D Status and Mortality” in BMC Medicine displays a detailed flow chart of vitamin D metabolism, which shows that magnesium is required in 8 crucial steps. In addition, a recent paper released in 2018 demonstrates found that magnesium intake significantly interacted with vitamin D in relation to vitamin D status and risk of mortality. Finally, Dr. Taylor Wallace recently published a very important paper outlining magnesium's role in immune resilience providing a summary of experimental findings and knowledge of the biochemical role magnesium may play in the pathogenesis of COVID-19 is presented in this perspective.
Tonight, we'll talk with Dr. Carolyn Dean about Vitamin D - Powering Your Immune System- along with a wide range of other health topics and clinically recommended nutritional assets to support your body. You will love hearing the beneficial interactions with our callers and hosts alike including the body/mind connection, identifying the 'conflict' in the 'conflict basis' of disease and much more!!

We finish today with the bouncing, joyful “Shamiyaya”, a Hawaiian reggae tune from Mariam’s upcoming “Release” album.
