Saying GOOD-BYE to Election Stress! --Carolyn Dean MD ND
The 2020 Election is a source of significant stress for more American’s than the 2016 election, according to a Harris Poll conducted by the APA. In addition to the uncertainty of our unprecedented year of change and upheaval, speculation that the results of the election may not soon be known threaten even more stressful times and circumstances.
What can be done to alleviate our stress and allow our circumstances to wax and wane with ease and grace. There are different types of stress which can either be biological or emotional in nature.
In biological terms, stress is a response to circumstances which force a person to act quickly, change, or make some adjustment to keep things in balance. When a person is stressed, his/her body automatically jumps into an action which is called a fight or flight response and our bodies immediately respond to the stressors by telling our nervous systems and stress hormones that it is time to act. Our hypothalamus informs the adrenal glands to produce more hormones, adrenaline and as well as cortisol, and release them into the bloodstream. Experiments where adrenaline is given intravenously shows it decreases magnesium as well as calcium, potassium, and sodium. This proves that when you are in a revved-up state and burning adrenaline, you are also burning off magnesium.
There are more than a dozen major metabolic processes that are affected by bursts of adrenaline, including heart rate, blood pressure, blood vessel constriction, and contraction of all muscles, including the heart. Thus, we feel palpitation, shortness of breath, and we may experience high blood pressure. All these symptoms are the body’s defense to the stress. Our blood vessels open wide, thus allowing more blood to flow to the muscles. Stored glucose from the liver pours into the blood stream to create much needed energy. And, guess, what? Each of these functions requires magnesium to bring them back into balance.
Prolonged stress can create magnesium deficient anxiety. Anxiety can also be created when fear is present – fears stemming from predictable or unpredictable situations, which may be real or imaginary. Although anxiety is a terrifying experience it is, unless taken to the extreme, not dangerous at all. It is a common human emotion. Anxiety is part and parcel of our everyday life. Anxiety is about worries, concerns, nervousness, and stress. In fact, to feel anxious occasionally is fine because it prepares us to be ready for actual challenges. But persistent and prolonged stress that keeps the body off balance may be related to magnesium and mineral deficiency.
Millions of people try unsuccessfully to cope with stress and anxiety by taking pharmaceuticals or through behaviors that put even more stress on the body such as overeating, cigarette smoking, alcohol abuse, or use of street drugs. We are a nation suffering a 32 percent incidence of stress-related anxiety, depression, and drug problems. Instead of treating stress reactions properly with magnesium, each year millions of people are introduced to the merry-go-round of psychiatric drugs and psychological counseling for symptoms that may, in fact, be rooted in magnesium deficiency.
If your stress, anxiety, or panic is rooted in a magnesium deficiency, good news is coming your way. Dr. Carolyn Dean, author of The Magnesium Miracle [2017 Edition] believes that magnesium supplementation is a safe, effective solution to the fight or flight response to stress and anxiety. Her confidence and knowledge is backed up by credible medical and scientific references and anecdotal data gather from years of clinical experience. Consistent, daily use of a highly absorbed liquid magnesium clinically shown to improve magnesium levels with just one dose…well, your depleted body may experience immediate relief. When stacked against its ‘competitors’ magnesium is inexpensive, easy to use, and does not promote side effects like pharmaceutical products or other psychological soothers like nicotine, alcohol, sugar, etc. Other nutritional supports such as vitamin B, vitamin C and potassium will help soothe the body and mediate the adrenal response.
In turning our attention to emotional stressors, we know that conditions and circumstance which evoke feelings of uncertainty, powerless, despair or other feelings created by the stimulus of certain events create stress as well. In that regard another wonderful resource for stress relief is EFT, or tapping. Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is an easy-to-learn healing technique that its creator, Gary Craig, says you can “try it on anything.”
Based on the principles of acupuncture EFT helps to bring balance into your energy system and into your body, mind and spirit. The basic premise is that anything that is showing up as physical or emotional distress in your body is a result of a disruption in your body’s energy system.
To ease this disruption, you simply use your fingertips to tap on specific acupuncture points as shown in the diagram below. You don’t use needles and you can easily do it yourself.
While you are tapping, you focus your attention on something specific that is bothering you.
People of all ages report great success with EFT once they learn the basics. Children love it and so does one of my clients who is 100 years old.
One of the beautiful things about EFT is that you use the same process every time, no matter what issue, illness or problem you are working on. Once you learn the basics of EFT you can apply it to any circumstance. I marvel at the fact that you can use it on such dissimilar conditions as IBS and fear of public speaking.
EFT, or tapping, is very simple to learn and to apply yourself. I encourage you to practice and be persistent when using EFT. Don’t give up.
Take 20 minutes for yourself, shut the door and turn off the phones. This way you can focus on taking in this information. Have some paper in front of you and print off the EFT Tapping Points so you have them in front of you.
In a nutshell, with EFT tapping, you pinpoint an issue that is bothering you or causing you discomfort or distress. Then you use your fingertips to tap on specific acupuncture points while you are thinking about your issue. To get more information about tapping – read Dr. Dean’s blog on the Emotional Freedom Technique.

HOUR 1
Guest Panel - Thyroid Insufficiency and Adrenal Fatigue--Carolyn Dean MD ND
Minerals play a huge part in the rehabilitation of several major hormone systems in the body. Dr. Carolyn Dean, doctor, naturopath and author of The Magnesium Miracle, refers to the adrenals, thyroid and sex hormones as a three-sided stool. When one of the legs of the stool is shortened it affects the other two. This can be seen on blood testing; when cortisol levels go up, thyroid hormone levels go down.
There is an ongoing debate among natural medicine practitioners about what comes first, adrenal fatigue or thyroid insufficiency and what do you treat first? Dr. Dean has commented that she thinks it’s a moot point because they are often not looking at one of the main causes of both conditions – mineral deficiency, which means you can treat the two conditions simultaneously.
The standard treatment for thyroid, even for natural medicine practitioners, is to give thyroid replacement therapy. It may be the more natural form of Armour thyroid, but it’s still treating with hormones instead of treating the reason the thyroid became weakened in the first place. An overwhelming number of our customers now agree – most low thyroid conditions are caused by mineral deficiency.
Treating disease in a linear format, one thing at a time is not consistent with the way the body works, where everything is interrelated and works synergistically.
It’s usually agreed that the most common reasons for adrenal fatigue and dysfunction are poor diet, mineral deficiency, intense emotional stress, chronic inflammation and an underactive thyroid. But what’s causing the inflammation and underactive thyroid and what diet is feeding into the problem?
It's well-known and regarded by most of the public that a diet of refined sugars, high-gluten wheat, and processed dairy is unhealthy but did you know feeding your body these foods may also result in yeast overgrowth? Diet, antibiotics, and cortisol from acute and chronic emotional stress may cause yeast overgrowth as well.
There are 178 different yeast toxins that are produced by yeast in their life cycle. These toxins are absorbed into the bloodstream and lead to a chronic inflammatory state that can cause arthritis, chronic fatigue, and pain. Magnesium and molybdenum help detoxify yeast toxins. Some yeast toxins can directly block thyroid function and possibly adrenal function as well. The best anti-inflammatory agent available to the body is magnesium. When magnesium is depleted because of being overused, adrenal fatigue symptoms continue unabated.
The treatment for adrenal fatigue begins with sodium, which is vitally important for proper adrenal function. If your adrenal glands are weak or depleted as indicated by exhaustion, low blood pressure and chronic stress, there is a combined sodium and magnesium depletion. If you start taking large doses of magnesium without replacing sodium, you may feel even worse. Dr. Dean recommends ¼ tsp of sea salt in every quart of drinking water. How much water? Half your body weight in ounces of water.
The best diet for the adrenals is a yeast-free diet avoiding sugar, wheat, and dairy to cut down on the body-wide inflammation that yeast produces. Magnesium will also treat inflammation. The adrenals are supported with vitamin C and potassium commonly referred to as the adrenal cocktail. Using the vitamin C ReSet and Pico Potassium provide the body with properly measured, bioavailable nutrients is a delicious form.
Some practitioners suggest that you have to take DHEA and pregnenolone for adrenal repair, but Dr. Dean’s suggestion are more simple. Instead of immediately jumping to hormone replacement, let’s use the proper building blocks to make our own hormones. For example, transdermal magnesium using ReMag Lotion on the skin will stimulate DHEA receptors. You need cholesterol to make hormones like pregnenolone and for cholesterol so you need good fats such as olive oil and coconut oil.
The most overlooked aspect of making your own hormones is properly functioning enzyme systems. And we know that in order for enzyme systems to function properly you need lots of bioavailable magnesium and minerals.
An underactive thyroid is a trigger for adrenal fatigue and has its own list of causes that include thyroid receptor blockage due to yeast toxins. So, the diet for an underactive thyroid is the same as for adrenal fatigue. The body requires 9 minerals to make thyroid hormones and all those minerals are found in their proper biological ratios in Dr. Dean’s formula, ReMyte.
The sex hormones are also supported by minerals and the proper function of the thyroid and adrenals. DHEA stimulation by transdermal magnesium will stimulate the production of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.
If you suffer from adrenal fatigue and thyroid insufficiency, the information in his blog is enough to get you started on the road to recovery.
Extra sleep, rest, sea salt and high dose magnesium work to help alleviate adrenal fatigue. But it’s also important to face the cause of your stress and realize your body may be producing physical symptoms as a result of this stress.

Building Blocks for Cardiovascular Health -- Carolyn Dean MD ND
Cardiovascular health is not constructed on the basis of a single nutrient or a single approach. Instead, the key building blocks for cardiovascular performance work holistically and synergistically to achieve their health outcomes. Actually, ALL nutrients work together to perform their functions in the body.
Longitudinal clinical studies on the effects of nutrients on cardiovascular health point to several true ‘GIANTS’ in the field: magnesium, potassium, vitamin B6, B12, vitamin C and D3/K2.
Dietary intake of whole food Sustaining health and well-being starts by a review of your dietary intake of fresh, whole food. Start with whole, complete foods including healthy proteins, only a few servings of fruit a day, and raw or lightly cooked vegetables. Avoid processed foods and oils, sugars, and gluten that diminish health and vitality.
Even with a good diet, you’ll get less magnesium, minerals, and vitamins in your food than you would have gotten 30 years ago because of the way our farmland has been depleted and our food is being heavily processed.
The Benefits of Dietary Supplements To complete your diet and optimize your cardiovascular performance it’s important to take highly absorbed, food-based, meticulously prepared formulas created by Dr. Carolyn Dean. Here’s a list of where to start and why:
Magnesium is an essential mineral that serves as a structural component of the skeleton; assists in 1,000 enzymatic reactions involved in the synthesis of energy, DNA, and proteins; and is required for proper nerve conduction and muscle contraction. The way in which magnesium influences cardiac health is well researched and well documented. Magnesium supports vascular health, lowers inflammatory mediators and reduce a angiotensin-induced aldosterone synthesis, all of which can lower blood pressure. Dr. Dean's magnesium recommendation: ReMag Magnesium Solution.
Vitamin D is actually a hormone and is made by the body through summer sun exposure, 30 minutes if you have fair skin with as much skin exposed as possible. If you can’t get proper exposure to the sun, then Dr. Dean recommends supplementing with Vitamin D. To get the most benefit from vitamin D you have to have the other co-factors in your body as well – those include magnesium, vitamin K2, zinc, and boron. Both zinc and boron can be found in ReMyte Mineral Solution – ReMag’s sister mineral product and you can get vitamin D3K2 from Dr. Dean’s D2K2ReSet.
Vitamin K2 is needed to get calcium in the body where it needs to be, in bones and teeth, not arteries, and it protects against vitamin D toxicity. Like magnesium, nearly everyone is deficient, because our eggs and butter and other natural sources are either missing from the diet or come from industrially raised animals not fed on grass. Vitamin K2 supplementation may dramatically reduce fracture rates and even reverses arterial calcification.
Vitamin B-6 – Vitamin B6 (pyridoxal-5-phosphate). As a coenzyme, vitamin B6 assists in an amazing variety of tasks – the creation of heme, the iron-containing component of red blood cells; making the hormone serotonin (the “feel good” hormone); processing carbohydrates for energy; keeping the nervous system working smoothly, and supporting hundreds of other jobs. Having low levels of this key nutrient can lead to skin disorders, depression, dizziness, headaches, and other, more serious problems, such as heart attacks and strokes. Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate, or P5P as it is commonly known, is the active form of vitamin B6 found in Dr. Dean’s product, ReAline. In foods or most supplements, vitamin B6 is found in one of three forms: pyridoxine hydrochloride, pyridoxal, or pyridoxamine. Inside the body, these forms of B6 have to be converted by the liver to the active form the body needs – P5P. Low rates of conversion from the inactive to the active form of vitamin B6 have been reported, especially in people with impaired liver function, Celiac’s disease, older adults, and in children with autism. By consuming vitamin B6 in the active P5P form, conversion is no longer necessary, and the full benefits are available immediately after absorption.
Vitamin C - Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) neutralizes a variety of reactive oxygen species and recycles important cellular antioxidants. The antioxidant activities of vitamin C may protect the lining of blood vessels from damage caused by oxidative stress and increase the availability of nitric oxide, a gaseous signaling molecule that helps relax arterial walls. Vitamin C ReSet is a really fun way to get your daily dose of vitamin C in a sparkly, delicious berry drink!

Co-Morbidity No More Let's Get Healthy, America-- Carolyn Dean MD ND
There are many take-aways from the coronavirus epidemic here in the United States and to us, here at RnAReSet, at the top of the list is the indisputable fact that over 70% of Americans are unhealthy.
There are many factors that cause illness, and additional factors that compromise immunity and the body’s ability to fight infection. As a medical doctor and a naturopath Dr. Carolyn Dean has committed her life’s work to identifying the factors that are the basis for disease and addressing those issues with the appropriate remedies.
America's Health Report Card
In the case of America’s health report card, our nation has been demonstrating the symptoms of a national health crisis prior to the COVID pandemic. In fact, the prevalence of asthma, chronic kidney disease, COPD, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, multiple chronic conditions, obesity, and cancer among our citizens has been rising in crisis proportion since the early 2000’s.
Magnesium Deficiency Public Health Crisis
Concurrent to this epidemic of chronic disease is the rise in nutritional deficiencies that are at the foundation of our public health crisis.
In 2017, Dr. Dean wrote a comprehensive article outlining the 65 conditions related to magnesium deficiency knowing that magnesium deficiency is just one piece of the nutritional deficiency puzzle followed by other vitamin and mineral deficiencies such as vitamin D, zinc, and iodine.
Comorbidity Defined
This year the term comorbidity has become central to our public health awareness. Comorbidity means more than one disease/condition is present in a person at a time. For example, if a person is diagnosed with high blood pressure and anxiety they have co-morbid disorders. Other conditions that are seen to overlap include physical ailments such as diabetes, cardiovascular illness, cancer, infectious diseases, and dementia. Mental disorders that tend to show comorbidity also include eating disorders, anxiety disorders, and substance abuse.
Ushering In A New Awareness
What is not medically recognized is that our citizens exist in a world where multiple nutritional deficiencies create comorbidities - a perfect storm leaving us in a public health crisis that must be solved at the individual level for it’s the individual that makes up the statistics that drive our very poor health outcomes in this country.
As a people, as a country, we must incorporate a new approach to health and vitality in the days to come. American’s need a Total Body ReSet.
Tonight, our topic on LIVE with Dr. Carolyn Dean is Let's Get Healthy, America - along with a wide range of strategies to support your longevity, vitality and well-being. You will love hearing the beneficial interactions with our callers and hosts alike including the body/mind connection, identifying the 'conflict' in the 'conflict basis' of disease and much more!!
SO...be sure to join us this evening for another wonderful, information-packed broadcast. If you yourself are unable to make the show, you have the option to email Dr. Dean and have your question or comment included in our MailBag. Remember, the valuable information, suggestions, and insights about your health choices you hear on the show should always be discussed with your doctor.

Vitamin D - Powering Your Immune System -- Carolyn Dean MD ND
While the world waits for a definitive treatment, cure, or vaccine for COVID-19, studies have shown a significant correlation between a low level of vitamin D in the blood and a greater risk of infection. Vitamin D deficiency has now been shown to increase susceptibility to COVID-19 and increathe risk of COVID-19 severity, including ICU admission and death. Conversely, other published studies have also shown
those with higher vitamin D levels (over 30 ng/ml or 75 nmol/L) have a reduced risk of severe symptoms and death due to COVID-19. In fact, an analysis of over 190,000 Americans found that having vitamin D levels of at least 50 ng/ml resulted in a 53% lower positivity rate than those whose levels were less than 20 ng/ml! The first-published randomized controlled trial on vitamin D and COVID-19 found that adding vitamin D to the standard treatment nearly eliminated ICU admissions and did eliminate deaths.
These scientific facts, based on research supported by GrassrootsHealth and other clinical research groups, should have your full and complete attention. HOWEVER, increasing vitamin D supplementation is not, in and of itself, a solution.
Magnesium and Vitamin D Metabolism
"While many people are beginning to realize the amazing health benefits that vitamin D has to offer in the prevention of disease, they may not be getting the full benefits from vitamin D without also supplementing their diets with magnesium, which is a vital nutrient that works synergistically with vitamin D," says Dr. Carolyn Dean, author of The Magnesium Miracle.
Over the past decade, Dr. Carolyn Dean has been educating the public on the role of magnesium in vitamin D metabolism. Too much vitamin D can deplete magnesium and cause magnesium deficiency symptoms. The amount of magnesium required to process high blood levels of Vitamin D might contribute to more migraines, heart palpitations, AFib, and insomnia when they take vitamin D.
Magnesium is so important in vitamin D metabolism that optimum levels of storage vitamin D and magnesium are much more effective in producing active vitamin D than high dose vitamin D. The paper “Magnesium, Vitamin D Status and Mortality” in BMC Medicine displays a detailed flow chart of vitamin D metabolism, which shows that magnesium is required in 8 crucial steps. In addition, a recent paper released in 2018 demonstrates found that magnesium intake significantly interacted with vitamin D in relation to vitamin D status and risk of mortality. Finally, Dr. Taylor Wallace recently published a very important paper outlining magnesium's role in immune resilience providing a summary of experimental findings and knowledge of the biochemical role magnesium may play in the pathogenesis of COVID-19 is presented in this perspective.
Tonight, we'll talk with Dr. Carolyn Dean about Vitamin D - Powering Your Immune System- along with a wide range of other health topics and clinically recommended nutritional assets to support your body.
