Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #398 is an hour of acoustic visionary improvisational music featuring the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, native flute, acoustic guitar, celtic harp, ukulele and dulcimer, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on piano. Recorded live in June 2020 at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts, today’s show begins with the languid, summer-soaked “Awakening Into Crystalline Vibrations” led by Mariam’s vocal, native flute and celtic harp. “Calling The One” is a mystical, swirling groove featuring a lush, repeating piano figure from Bob under Mariam’s lovely vocal and “Lovely” finds Mariam picking up her tenor ukulele for an unusually driving piece build around lush Mideastern modes. “It Doesn’t Matter” is a beautiful minor key ballad driven by Mariam’s chiming acoustic guitar. Next up is “Keep Our Love In Sight”, a pretty nursery rhyme led by Mariam’s delicately percussive dulcimer and skipping congas from Craig. We finish up today with a classic song from Mariam, the meditative, compelling “Sail On” from the Visionquest cd.

Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #397 is an hour of visionary improvisational acoustic music recorded live by the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, native flute, ukulele and acoustic guitar, Robin Rooney on djimbe, celtic harp and vocals and Bob Sherwood on piano. Recorded live at Singing Brook Studio on June 1st, 2020, today’s show begins with Mariam’s classic song “Gather Together”, given a stately, powerful reading here with lovely harmonies from Mariam and Robin. “We Are Changing” is a beautiful, gentle folk song about new beginnings with gospel touches and a compelling, rolling piano performance by Bob and pretty, chiming ukulele from Mariam. “Carry Us Away” is another subtle, soft ballad featuring a deeply sensitive vocal from Mariam and “To The River I Go” is a driving, powerful piece with blues and rock flavors and propulsive djimbe from Robin. Next up we present a “part two” that diverges in every way but lyrical sentiment, celebrating nature and beauty with a skipping, light feel. “Reflection” is a breathless invocation of nature and gratitude set to a deep and beautiful musical backing with a bravura piano performance from Bob. We conclude today’s show with the mystical “Rainbow Lights All Around”, a swirling, dizzying piece with exceptional vocals from Mariam and Robin and an opening flute fanfare from Mariam that sets a tone of deep reverence.

Recorded live at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts in May 2020, today’s show begins with the relaxed and very evocative “I Love You So”, a powerful and plaintive song of praise and love. “Peaceful Harmony As You Open Your Wings” is a stately, gospel-influenced piece with fine vocals from Mariam and Robin and “Right Before Our Eyes” is a driving rock song about transformation in our time with dramatic piano from Bob and compelling vocals from Mariam. “Go Deep” is a little swiss watch of a song with call and response vocals from Mariam and Robin and an expansive piano figure from Bob and “Andaya Nayana” closes the show with a beautiful, meditative groove built on Mariam’s beautiful vocals and shrudi box.

Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #395 Part Two was recorded at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts, on a warm late spring day and features the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, native flute, ukulele, harmonica, piano and acoustic guitar, Bob Sherwood on piano and acoustic guitar and Craig Harris on congas and native drums. Today’s first piece is the driving, fundamental “Let’s All Go Down Deep Within” a blooming, growing piece that begins in an austere native mode and grows into a lush ballad decorated by gorgeous native flute from Mariam. “All Hail To The Glory” is a pretty, sprightly ballad hung upon Mariam’s chiming ukulele and Craig’s driving congas that grows into a driving Afrocuban groove with ambitious, imaginative and jazzy piano figures from Bob. Next up, “Queen Moon” is a gorgeous, impassioned ballad featuring acoustic guitar and inspired, visionary lyrics from Mariam. Today’s final piece is “So Many Shades Of Green” and features Mariam’s piano as Bob moves to the acoustic guitar.

Today’s show begins with the lovely mystical raga “I Am Expressing My Soul’s Deepest Passion”, an eastern piece with a deeply spiritual flow featuring fine vocals from Mariam and Robin. “Let’s Sail Along” continues the mystical mood with more great vocals and an imaginative piano backing from Bob. “Jophy The Monkey” is a whimsical tale set to a varied, energized musical backing and “Rialia” is a lush and mysterious take of a classic song by Mariam. “Let’s Sing To The Coloratura” is a relaxed, meditative folk song and today’s closing number is a sprightly folk tune to a spring morning called “Ah The Morning Oh Yeah”.

We begin today with the sprightly, ancient British Isle raga of “We Have Arrived”, a dramatic piece driven by Mariam’s dancing dulcimer and imaginative piano from Bob. “No More Waiting” is a deeply felt minor key ballad with Mariam on acoustic guitar and “Oh The Journey” is a mystical, evocative cloud of a piece that arrives and departs softly and emotionally. “Reawakening” is stage-set with Mariam and her gentle ukulele before a healthy dose of drama is injected via Bob’s piano. “Brightly” is a native-influenced tone poem from Mariam to the power of nature and “Grateful We’re Shining” sets the stage for extensive, evocative flute passages from Mariam. We finish today with Mariam’s classic Hawaiian folk song “Shamiyaya” given a beautiful, and deeply felt reading with dancing ukulele and imaginative, flowing piano.

Recorded on an April afternoon at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts, today’s show begins with the gorgeous “Oh Rose”, a simple and yet rich, romantic song in praise of the flower. “Did You See The Moon Last Night?” elevates the mood of simple praise and gratitude to the night sky with an energetic vocal from Mariam set to a driving folk groove. The band opens into a spacious, evocative soundscape that sets the stage for a gorgeous conversation between Mariam and her native flute. “Tucked Inside The Glory” continues today’s theme of simple reverence and appreciation, couching an individual prayer for humanity in a mystical, spacious musical context and “Letting Go” is a mysterious raga driven by Mariam’s dulcimer and Robin’s steady djimbe and soaring background vocals. Today’s first number is the epic-and-yet sprightly, folky “Humanity Hunkering Home”, a positive spin on the Coronavirus quarantine featuring a fine lyric and energized ukulele from Mariam. “Spring Is Still Coming On” takes a turn for the mystical, and is an evocative and deeply felt paean to the change of seasons driven by Robin and Craig’s powerful rhythm section. “Goddess, Goddess” is a classic from Mariam, here given a flowing and reverent treatment with beautiful vocal interplay between Robin and Mariam and imaginative piano from Bob. “Sing Down The Walls” is a folk anthem from Mariam, and “Restore” is another Mariam song, here given a stately and evocative treatment as befits this beautiful environmental anthem. A shift in tempo brings us without pause to the minimalist, autumnal “Oh The Symphony Of Life”, a piece that culminates in a bluesy and pleasantly dissonant conversation between Bob’s Gershwinesque piano figure and Mariam’s soaring native flute. “Farewell To Winter” brings more summer into the music with a slow, hypnotic groove from a rhythm section featuring Mariam’s acoustic guitar, steady, driving congas from Craig and Bob’s ever-searching piano. “Stay Ahead Of The Game Of Life” is today’s final piece, an elegiac, native-inflected improv which provides a showcase for Mariam’s lyrical native flute and evocative nature imagery.
