Women Waking the World~ A Conversation with Marilyn Nyborg
In this edition of Conversations with Extraordinary People I’ll be in conversation with Marilyn Nyborg, spiritual activist and co-founder of two organizations, Gather the Women, and Women Waking the World. We will discuss these remarkable organizations and the core issues around which they have been built. Gather the Women’s purpose is to bring women together to inspire one another, to witness one another, collaborate, work together on the things that are passionate to their hearts and to give women a voice.
Women Waking the World frames the central crisis of our time as the devaluation of the Feminine, which allows the degradation of the earth, the abuse of women, their exclusion from influence, and ultimately the decline of all life. WWW offers a website that is truly a portal into a conversation around the effects of what they refer to as the patriarchy. And in doing that these portals offer a curriculum, videos, articles, their blogs and much, much more. And, as for men, Women Waking the World’s intention is also to reflect the voices of men who really hear their plea.

Non-toxic Cancer Treatment: A Conversation with Erik Peper
This week’s conversation will be with Dr. Erik Peper, Ph.D.. Erik and I worked as colleagues in the pioneering San Andreas Health Council in Palo Alto CA back in the early days of Holistic Medicine. He is an international authority on biofeedback and self-regulation.
In this lively conversation we will explore some of the latest discoveries in biofeedback and tools for self-healing. In a world where our health care system is actually a “sick-care” system that requires us to be ill in order to function Dr. Peper focuses on the inner potential we all have to respond to disease and illness.
We will explore some of the powerful ideas in his latest book, Fighting Cancer: A Nontoxic Approach to Treatment, written with Robert Gorter, MD. The model presented here is science based, and appears to be effective, humane, nontoxic, and stunningly successful for a wide range of cancers. Supporting the immune system to fight cancer from within is critical to complete care for the patient, and Fighting Cancer encourages millions to take action and restore hope.”
If you, your patients, or any of those you love are dealing with cancer, this is an excellent opportunity for discovery, and to enjoy Dr. Peper’s always spellbinding presentation. If you haven’t yet encountered cancer in your life or community, this is an excellent way to prepare to deal wisely with its challenges.
Dr. Peper is Professor and Co-Director of the Institute for Holistic Healing Studies at San Francisco State University. He is President of the Biofeedback Foundation of Europe and past President of the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback. He has served as behavioral scientist (sport psychologist) for the United States Rhythmic Gymnastic team. His research interests focus on psychophysiology of healing, voluntary self-regulation, holistic health, healthy computing, respiratory psychophysiology and optimizing health with biofeedback.
Erik Peper is an internationally known expert on holistic health, stress management, and biofeedback. He received his BA from Harvard University in 1968 and his PhD in psychology from Union Graduate Institute in 1975. Since 1976 he has taught at San Francisco State University (SFSU), where he was instrumental in establishing the Institute for Holistic Health Studies, the first holistic health program at a public university in the U.S.
Dr. Peper is president of the Biofeedback Foundation of Europe, former president of the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback and of the Biofeedback Society of California, and was the sports psychologist for the U.S. Olympic Gymnastic Team for four years. He received a State of California Governor’s Employee Safety Award in 2004 for his contributions to improving workplace health for computer users. Dr. Peper lectures and teaches frequently all over the world and runs a biofeedback practice at BiofeedbackHealth in Berkeley, California. A recognized expert on stress management and workplace health and the author of numerous books and articles, he has been the editor of Psychophysiology Today since 2004 and has been featured on ABCNews.com and in GQ, Glamour, Men’s Health, Reader’s Digest, the San Francisco Chronicle, Shape, and Women’s Health.

7 STEPS OF HOPE Healing from Chronic Illness and Disability – A Conversation with Nancy Gordon LCSW
Nancy Gordon was an enthusiastic Licensed Clinical Social Worker when suddenly she was hit with a devastating illness that was not diagnosed for many years. And even when it had been diagnosed, there was no adequate medical treatment, so she knows firsthand what it is like to descend into the depths of disability.
Her combined personal experience of chronic fibromyalgia and traumatic brain injury has given rise to her passionate mission in life – to assist others on the journey of transforming one’s life while living with the challenge of illness and disability. Along the way she discovered a breed of dog, the Xolo, which for many centuries has been shown to have sacred and healing powers.
In today’s conversation you will learn of her inspiring Journey through devastation and disability to become a beacon of hope and healing. We will explore the seven steps of hope that she describes more fully in her guidebook, “7 STEPS OF HOPE Healing the Emotional, Mental and Spiritual Impact of Chronic Illness and Disability”.
In addition you will learn more about this remarkable little dog that can replace your heating pad and much more. Nancy is the founder of Paws for Comfort® and the non-profit Xolos For Chronic Pain Relief,™ as a result of her story filmed by Animal Planet on her use of Xolos as the first identified service dog specifically for fibromyalgia.

Childhood Molestation to Healing Spirit to Sassy Shoes - A Conversation With Margot Silk Forrest
About 20 years ago my then 11-year-old daughter said to me in that oh-so-innocent way kids can do, “Daddy, when I look in the faces of grown-ups sometimes I see a very sad child. Isn’t there something we can do to help them?” How could I possibly say no to her?
The outcome of that conversation was the CD entitled Inner Child Healing. It’s goal was to speak to that child within coming to give its support, comfort, love, and healing. What was unique about this program compared to all the others I have done, was that it not only included guidance into a state of deep relaxation, once the listener reaches that state of relaxation they hear the voice of my daughter speaking directly to the inner child: “I am a child, like you, and I know how sad you can be…”. Our idea was that instead of hearing an adult speaking to the inner child, the listener’s inner child might be more open to hearing the voice of another child.
Childhood molestation creates some of the largest amount of inner trauma and PTSD. Therefore I included Margot Silk Forrest on this program. Margot was sexually molested by her father, from her infancy until she was 12 years old. Her recovery involved work in EMDR with Francine Shapiro, following which, she began to edit a newsletter, The Healing Woman, for women who had been molested as children. Margott Silk Forest is a writer, an editor, and a creator of wearable art. She has written and co-written numerous books, including her first, A Short Course In Kindness.
Long ago, back in 1990, when the psychotherapeutic professions had little awareness of the extent of sexual molestation and abuse of children, Margot Silk Forest happened to do a retreat at Thich Nhat Hanh at his Plum Village Center in France. Following this, she began to have strange dreams. A psychiatrist suggested that she simply follow these dreams, and they began to lead to flashbacks to sexual molestation extending over 10 years of her childhood.
Margot came from a family with a loving alcoholic mother, an inspiring and loving brother who could always make her laugh, and a highly ethical Philadelphia lawyer of a father who began molesting her in her infancy.
In this sensitive and moving episode, Margot shares her experience on discovering the truth about her early life, her work in creating the enormously successful newsletter, The Healing Woman, and the message that emerged from her years of publishing this incredibly useful periodical. She shares what she learned and the important messages that emerged, and why it was important that the hundreds of contributions from readers all end on a positive note in this little pink publication.
You will also learn how Margot has found deep happiness in her life and how she now serves as a guide for people who have wonderful things to offer the world – enabling them to translate their ideas into words and books, to bring them into written form. Finally, you’ll find out about her latest venture, painting shoes! How important it is to take something old and make it new and beautiful.

Spiritual Telepathy - A Conversation with Colleen Mauro
Have you ever had the experience of a message being communicated to you from deep within your soul or from higher beings? If so, you have had an experience of a spiritual telepathy. Although we may study science in school, we don’t learn much about this kind of communication; yet we must remember that our science is only a couple of hundred years old. On the other hand, there is a science which is thousands of years old and which has been studied by brilliant men and women in a variety of spiritual traditions.
According to today’s guest, our world is on the brink of an evolutionary step forward. The key, she says, is spiritual telepathy.
Colleen Mauro was the founder and editor-in-chief of Intuition magazine. Her thirty years of experience in magazine publishing includes work as a publisher, editor, advertising director, and circulation and marketing consultant. A lifelong interest in the untapped powers of the mind led to the launch of Intuition magazine in 1988. Intuition explored the higher potential of the mind and the many and varied ways of knowing—intuition, inspiration and telepathy—providing both research and how-to information in easy-to-read form for the general reader.

Healing Through the Power of the God Within - A Conversation with Ibrahim Jaffe, MD
Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe is a medical doctor whose eyes were opened to a much deeper form of healing than addressed in Mainstream Medicine. His mind was opened during his training in Internal Medicine, when he witnessed jaundice and ascites vanish before his eyes as a group of Rabbis healed his apparently terminal patient – using doves!!!
Listen to this compassionate, intelligent, dedicated physician as he describes this and some of the other remarkable experiences as he traveled the world studying approaches that went beyond treating symptoms to treating the true source of illness. Unwilling to be satisfied with healing techniques that were merely miraculous, Dr. Jaffe’s quest was to find a way that the power to heal could be owned and used by the patient, rather than being a passive recipient.
He found what he was looking for in the approaches of a particular form of Sufism. Together we will probe the fundamental principles of its wisdom teaching, and how we can, through guiding our thoughts, images, and beliefs, remove the blockages to the healing energy that exists deep within us.
Finally Dr. Miller will guide you on a personal journey in imagery to apply these tools in your life now –Becoming One.

Brave New Mind - A Conversation with Elliot Maynard, PhD
Futurist Dr. Elliott Maynard, who has been referred to by some of his colleagues as “The Human from the Future.” He is a leading-edge consciousness scientist and conceptual designer whose background spans the fields of Zoology, Coral Reef Ecology, Oceanography and Tropical Rain forest Biology. He earned his Ph.D. in Consciousness Research, served on the faculties of Adelphi University and Dowling College in New York, and is Founder and President of Arcos Cielos Foundation in Sedona, Arizona.
Like Dr. Miller a large part of Dr. Maynard’s focus has been directed to the study of consciousness, and how our thinking perpetuates dysfunction while preventing the healing that we want – at both the personal and the collective level.
In this show, you will find more guidance in how to shift out of the linear form of thinking that traps us into endlessly repeating the mistakes of the past, and how to open ourselves to quantum thinking. You will hear numerous examples of the difference between these two kinds of thinking, and evidence about the breakthroughs possible when we shift to The New Paradigm.
You’ll also learn some practical tools for how you can become a quantum thinker drawn from Dr. Maynard’s recent books, Brave New Mind and Transforming the Human Biosphere. Finally, you will be offered an opportunity to experience a portion of the imagery from Dr. Miller’s powerful Healing Our Planet audio program.

Change Your Brain, Change Your Life - A Conversation With Daniel Amen, MD
A special opportunity to listen to two of the greats in the field of psychiatry and Mind-Body Medicine, and experience guided imagery for healing Attention Deficit Disorder. You are probably aware of Dr. Daniel Amen from his TV specials, especially on PBS specials. As a practicing child psychiatrist Dr. Amen fell in love with SPECT brain scans (SPECT = Single Photon Emission Computerized Tomography), which provide 3 dimensional images of the activity of the brain. In his subsequent work, aided by this remarkable technology, he became aware that the prevailing concepts about Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD or ADHD) were incorrect: Adults with ADD in their childhood often do not outgrow it, and that if this condition is not seen and treated, it will continue to block success, happiness, and love.
That’s because people with Attention Deficit have difficulty focusing on things in their lives that need their attention – especially tasks they find boring or uncomfortable. They have impulse control problems, they find it hard or impossible to organize things, and often have trouble learning from their mistakes.
And when you look at a SPECT scan of their brain you can see that their prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain right above your eyes, has an abnormally low state of arousal. When the subject tries to concentrate the activity in the prefrontal cortex actually goes down instead of up, the way a more normal brain does. So for the child in school, when we try to push this obviously intelligent child (ADD kids tend to be the intelligent ones) to concentrate harder, they actually do worse. Think about how hard that feels to a kid “the harder I try, the worse I get.”
It is because of these kind of experiences, the child with ADD loses confidence and empowerment, becomes demoralized, and develops low Self-esteem. Adults with ADD fail for the same reasons. They become frustrated, often stop trying to excel, their performance and personal life suffer, and frequently become depressed and turn to addictions for relief.
In today’s Conversation, Dr. Miller, who studied with Dr. Amen as a mentor for several years, will explore ADD and how it can be successfully be treated by eating the proper diet, exercising sufficiently, taking appropriate supplements, and, when necessary, medication. We will also explore the effect of stress on the brain, how our thoughts can create neuroplastic change (growth of new nerves and nerve connections) through guiding your thoughts and your mental imagery (mental image rehearsal, and experience an anti-ADD imagery, “Focus your Attention.” This is one you don’t want to miss.
