Eleventh Episode: You know that different drummer we hear so much about? That’s the one to whom Andrea “Andee” Scarantino marches. In February of 2018, Andee quit drinking and smoking. In October of 2018, she ran her first marathon. Then she quit the hospitality industry in which she’d worked for more than 10 years and started a coaching/consulting practice, concentrating on mindfulness. She celebrates her family and friends while cherishing and protecting her solitude. She practices self-faith while remaining humbly mindful of areas of opportunity. An Artist for All Media: Tao LaBossiere
Tenth Episode: Tao LaBossiere is one of the most ridiculously talented people I know. He’s an award-winning muralist, sculptor, and illustrator, who passionately celebrates community through his creative endeavors. He’s the volunteer co-director of the Hartford ArtSpace Gallery in Hartford, Connecticut. He was the lead creative partner at the Still Waters Retreat Center in Voluntown, Connecticut, for more than a decade. And he’s studied at Norwich Free Academy, the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts, The Cleveland Institute of Art, and the Hartford Art School. Most important and impressive, Tao is a really good man. Nineth Episode: The Reluctant Writer: Tammy Hader
The Reluctant Writer: Tammy Hader is a writer so modest she says she’s not a writer. She earned a BBA in accounting from Wichita State University, passed her CPA exam, and worked for 30 years as an accountant. Then the Muse called her to follow a path beyond spreadsheets. She heeded the call and started writing. She used her past in a small Midwestern town — influenced by family, friend, relationships, choices, consequences, and situations — to try to understand her disillusionment with the present. Combining that effort with her desire to regain her sense of benevolence, she wrote and published a memoir, Walking Old Roads. I read it. That’s how I know Tammy’s a writer of the first order. While parenting her daughter with a developmental disability, Sarah Spear experienced firsthand the difficulty of finding accessible businesses. She learned other families were feeling this pain point, too. Sarah recognized the value in sharing resources and knowledge with one another and Empowered Together was born. Today, Empowered Together's marketplace helps folks discover, connect with, and recommend accessible businesses. Sarah has a history of successfully building ventures, from leading PharmaSecure, a HealthTech company in India, through its Series A funding to being the first Executive Director of the Arch Grants startup competition in St. Louis. Her gift for facilitating community and corporate groups gets people to look at things in a different way, curiously engaging with their world. Sixth Episode: The Hitchhiking Rabbi: Yonason Goldson
After graduating from college with a degree in English, Yonason packed a bag and hitchhiked across the country. Since then, he’s circumnavigated the globe and seen the Taj Mahal, the pyramids of Giza, and the tea plantations of Sri Lanka. He’s hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and to the tops of the Sierra Nevada. He’s jumped from an airplane and undergone open-heart surgery (but not at the same time). He’s studied at the University of Edinburgh, taught school in Budapest, Hungary, and seen Richard III performed in Ashland, Oregon, and Stratford-on-Avon. He’s been a professional speaker and teacher for more than three decades, published seven books, raised four children, and been married to the love of his life for more than 35 years. Also known as the Ethics Ninja, he applies the wisdom of the ancients to the challenges of the modern world. He’s one of my intellectual mentors, and he’ll join me to share his ethical view of the world. I hope you’ll join both of us.

Fifth Episode: The Search for Redemption: John Tejada. John came from a well-to-do family. He was an accomplished athlete. He attended the University of Notre Dame on an athletic scholarship and earned a degree in Communications. He won at the 2006 United States Fencing Association Summer National Championships. He worked as a writer for WABC TV in New York. He worked as a Senior Producer for the FeedRoom in New York. He worked as an Assignment Editor and an Associate Producer for ESPN. He got married and had two children. Then his world ended when he was charged with the sexual assault of a minor. He went to prison for two years, followed by 10 years of probation. He was released in 2015 and began his search for redemption. He wrote a manuscript for a book entitled, Searching for Redemption. And he’ll join me to share his story and that search. We hope you’ll join both of us.

A gentleman who’s scheduled to be a future guest on The Anxious Voyage coined the term, Designated Survivor, to explain why God let him survive a life-threatening disease. This week’s guest, JoAnna Bennett, is also a Designated Survivor. She didn’t survive a life-threatening disease. She survived a life-threatening relationship. JoAnna and I have worked together for 12 years. I’ve witnessed her journey. I’m 32 years her senior. She has, in many ways, become a role model for me. She’s learned she can be anything she wants to be, including a writer. By strength of will and character, she’s also learned she’ll never be a victim — of anything or anyone.
