Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour with Mariam Massaro
Gaea Star Crystal Radio #386 Part Two is an hour of visionary improvised music performed live by the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, native flute, acoustic guitar, ukulele and shrudi box, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on congas and native drums. Taped at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington Massachusetts in March 2020, today’s show begins with the mystical, powerful “Soldaygo”, a lush, dramatic piece led by Mariam’s acoustic guitar. “Morning Star Is Rising” is a pretty, gentle folk ballad with a large gospel influence and a beautiful lyric and melody from Mariam and “Before The Fire” begins with native flute fanfares from Mariam and electronically enhanced piano from Bob and settles into a relaxed and deeply reverent meditation with an evocative vocal from Mariam. “Into The Forest” is an understated prayer of praise and reverence to nature driven by Mariam’s 8 string ukulele and gradually enriched with beautiful piano figurations from Bob and a steady conga groove from Craig. Mariam picks up her tenor ukulele for “Faces In The Sky” is a drifting, psychedelic ode to a gentle late winter snowfall that evokes peace and the gradual quickening of nature. The band drifts without break into the mystical and unhurried “Hail To The Holy Ways”, a lush and peaceful ballad that yields to “The Mermaids Are Unfurling”, a pretty, gentle tone poem in praise of celebrating peace and unity among all people. A gradual rise in intensity and the introduction of an ominous and unsettled theme on the piano brings today’s show to a dramatic finale.
