Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour with Mariam Massaro
Today on Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #486, we present an hour of visionary acoustic improvisational music by the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, Native flute, acoustic guitar, ukulele and shruti box, Bob Sherwood on piano and bass guitar and Craig Harris on congas, Native drums and shakers. Recorded live at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts in early April 2022, today’s show begins with the sparse, stately “Let’s All Dance Together”, a hypnotic, grooving song with a fine vocal from Mariam and an insistent, infectious piano figure from Bob. “Oh Salinia, Spirit Beneath” is a lush, sprawling prayer with an evocative vocal from Mariam and “Cinnamon Sky” is a bittersweet folk ballad with an affecting lyric led by Mariam on acoustic guitar. Mariam holds down the drone on “Mariupol” with her shruti box beneath a beautiful lyric devoted to the spirit of Ukraine with fine work from the whole band. We play out today’s show with a driving, varied medley of classic “Gaea Star Goddesses” tracks, the sprightly, danceable “Pachamama” and the dark, fundamental funk of “Amaru Machay”.
