Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour with Mariam Massaro
Today on the Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #496, we present an hour of visionary acoustic improvisational music by The Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, Native flute, acoustic guitar, Celtic harp and ukulele, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on congas and Native drums. Recorded live at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts in June 2022, today’s show begins with the lithe, dancing “Summer Solstice Time”, a gospel tinged folk number using one of Mariam’s most charming chord progressions. “She’s Coming Up” is a languid, mystical ode to the rising summer moon featuring a fine tone poem from Mariam, and “Accentuate The Positive” is a spacious, trance-like piece that moves through several evocative spaces and features Mariam on Celtic harp and lyrical Native flute. Mariam continues with Native flute and Celtic harp on the fundamental funk of “Fountains Of Love”, a sparse, bluesy piece driven by Craig’s low end Native drum and jazzy piano from Bob. A large contrast is provided by the light, delicate “Hitch My Dreams On A Star”, a gorgeous, celestial ballad fashioned around Mariam’s lightly chiming acoustic guitar and Bob’s cloudy, echoing piano. “I Am Free” is a compelling tale of a brave chimpanzee released from captivity and we conclude today’s show with the lilting “Mighty Are The Wings Of Love”, a pretty ballad driven by Mariam’s bittersweet acoustic guitar chords.
