Mental Health for First Responders and the Behavioral Health Workforce
Dr. John Pratico is a clinical psychologist, licensed mental health counselor, and an Associate Professor of Psychology at Anna Maria College in Paxton, Massachusetts. He has worked with children, adolescents and adults in community health centers, psychiatric hospitals, schools, college counseling, and private practice settings across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Dr. Pratico’s work at Anna Maria College focuses on the training of the next generation of mental health counselors, which has a renewed concentration on building resilience and focusing on one’s own wellness as a mental health professional. He is also acutely aware of the systemic barriers and concerns that align with the educational and field training requirements necessary to become licensed in the human services field. One of the large federal grant projects he oversees provides cost-of-living stipends to Anna Maria College graduate psychology and social work students, who will go on to become Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC) and Licensed Independent Clinical Social Workers (LICSW) in the region. He directs Anna Maria College’s Mental Health First Aid training institute, which will facilitate provide over 2000 first responders with trainings on mental health topics by the end of 2024.
