Stop Waiting for the Map to Appear
Why clarity comes through movement — and why you need a path, not just more information.
After betrayal, it is natural to want the whole map before you move. You want to know if your marriage can be saved, if they are telling the truth, whether you will regret staying or leaving, and if you will ever feel like yourself again.
But what if the map does not appear until you move?
In this episode, Lora Cheadle shares a story from her 10-year podcast anniversary trip to New York, where her GPS kept spinning and recalculating until she finally started walking. That moment became the perfect metaphor for betrayal recovery: standing still does not always create clarity. Sometimes movement creates clarity.
Through stories from New York, Broadway, The Wizard of Oz, Wicked, and her own betrayal recovery journey, Lora explores why healing requires more than listening, learning, or waiting to see what your partner will do. Healing requires a path, a plan, support, and the willingness to take the next step.
If you are tired of spiraling, eroding your boundaries, betraying yourself to keep the peace, or waiting for someone else to become clear before you reclaim your own life, this episode will help you understand why it is time to stop waiting for the map to appear and take the path.
Top 3 Takeaways
The map may not appear until you move. After betrayal, it is tempting to wait for certainty before taking action. But clarity often comes through movement, not before it.
Listening is not the same as having a plan.Podcasts, books, therapy, and support groups can all be helpful, but gathering information is not the same as walking a structured recovery path.
You do not have to walk the path alone.Healing after betrayal requires heart, head, courage, support, and action. Like Dorothy gathering companions along the Yellow Brick Road, you need people and a process to help you move forward.

Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #675 is an hour of dynamic, adventurous visionary acoustic improvised music played live by The Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, acoustic guitar, ukulele, mandolin, sitar, Native flute, double flute and harmonica, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on Native drum and djembe. Today’s hour, recorded live at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts in late June of 2026, begins with the drifting, lilting acoustic guitar ballad “Authenticity” before Mariam plays her chiming, evocative mandolin on the beautifully spontaneously composed “Somebody Walked Before You” with an airy, spacious mood and a fine, widely-ranging vocal. “Ausangate” celebrates the high Peruvian Andes with a mystical, steady, pulsing rhythm track topped with Mariam’s mysterious, spiritual lyric and for the gorgeous “Living In The Majesty” guest Seth Martin steps in to play beautiful, echoing modal kalimba as Mariam soars on her psychedelic, overtone-producing double flute. “Summertime” is a Gaea Star Band tradition where the ensemble expresses the utmost possible joy at the arrival of summer backing an evocative summer travelogue from Mariam. “Singing The Same Songs Of Life” is an epic, sprawling blues extemporization decorated with Mariam’s bluesy harmonica sharing center stage with her fine vocal atop a bed of pulsing Native drum and Ray Charles piano. “Trust” from the Gaea Star Crystal LP is giving an energetic airing with driving djembe and acoustic guitar and we complete today’s show with the drifting, hallucinogenic raga “Lotus Queens” for which Mariam strums her exotic sitar and our guest Seth adds drone from the shruti box.

Pride Month: Choosing Compassion Over Judgment
As Pride Month comes to a close, I wanted to share something deeply personal.
In this episode, I talk about why supporting the LGBTQIA+ community is important to me, not only personally but as the founder of Make Mental Health Matter. I share my story of becoming an ally and why creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and accepted is at the heart of our mission.
We explore how our beliefs shape the way we treat other people. While we may not all agree on every belief or lifestyle, we can still choose respect, kindness, and compassion. Acceptance doesn't require agreement. It requires recognizing the humanity in one another.
I also discuss the importance of protecting the rights of every community, including LGBTQIA+ rights, marriage equality, and women's rights. No one should have the power to take away another person's fundamental rights or dignity.
I reflect on Make Mental Health Matter's involvement with Denver Pride over the past several years. Although we weren't selected to participate this year, I'll still be proudly walking the Pride 5K on Saturday and attending the Pride Parade on Sunday because showing up as an ally doesn't depend on having a booth. It depends on having a heart.
Too often, judgment comes from fear of what we don't understand. But imagine what our communities could look like if we chose curiosity over criticism and compassion over condemnation. If we gave people the freedom and space to be authentically themselves, how much better could this world become?
At the end of the day, every one of us wants the same basic things: to be loved, to be accepted, to feel safe, and to know we belong. When we start there, we realize we have far more in common than what divides us.
My message is simple.
Treat every human being with respect.
Lead with compassion.
Choose kindness over judgment.
Love who you love.
Be who you are.
You do you, boo.
Because everyone deserves to belong.
I am proud to be an ally, today, tomorrow, and always.
Thank you for being part of a community that believes every person deserves dignity, compassion, and hope. Together, we can build a world where mental health truly matters, and where everyone has the freedom to live authentically and know they belong.

Women: Feeling Overwhelmed, Overstimulated, and Misunderstood.
In this episode of Paperclips & Periods Podcast, Dr. Emily K. Cabrera, EdD, MSN, CAGS, PMHNP-BC and Katie Krych, MSN, RN, PMHNP(c) dive into a topic that resonates with women everywhere: feeling overwhelmed, overstimulated, and misunderstood.
Through candid conversation, personal stories, and plenty of laughter, Emily and Katie explore the invisible mental load that many women carry every day. From managing households, raising children, navigating careers, supporting relationships, and juggling endless to-do lists, they discuss how overstimulation can often be mistaken for irritability, impatience, or being "mean."
The discussion examines the cultural expectations placed on women to remain patient, available, and emotionally regulated at all times, while also highlighting the importance of boundaries, self-awareness, and self-compassion. Emily and Katie share their own experiences with stress, ADHD, motherhood, perimenopause, caregiving, and the challenges of asking for help when life feels overwhelming.
Most importantly, they remind listeners that needing a break does not make you selfish, setting boundaries does not make you difficult, and asking for space does not make you unkind. Sometimes what looks like frustration on the outside is simply a nervous system asking for rest.
As always, this conversation is not about perfection. It is about creating space for honest discussions, offering practical tools, and helping listeners feel seen, understood, and supported in the realities of everyday life.
Paperclips & Periods airs on Dreamvisions 7 Radio Network and supports Dual Minds Integrative Psychiatry, promoting emotional well-being and whole-person care.

A Decade of FLAUNT!: Truth-Telling, Betrayal, and Defining Yourself
What ten years of podcasting taught me about exposure, revelation, and reclaiming who you are.
FLAUNT! is officially ten years old, and this anniversary episode is both a celebration and a reflection on what a decade of truth-telling has revealed.
When Lora first started the podcast, she believed she was happily married and thought the show would focus primarily on empowerment, wellness, sensuality, confidence, visibility, humor, spirituality, and the art of living freely. Using burlesque as a metaphor, she explored the tension between concealing and revealing, the ways women cover or enhance parts of themselves, and how personal growth invites us to strip away roles, labels, scripts, and expectations.
But over the past ten years, the show evolved in ways Lora never expected. Betrayal, burnout, affair recovery, nervous-system capacity, self-trust, and identity reconstruction became central themes. What once felt like a joyful personal-development conversation became something deeper and more urgent after betrayal exposed the difference between revealing yourself by choice and being exposed by someone else’s actions.
In this episode, Lora asks one of the core questions that has shaped both the podcast and her TEDx work: Who gets to define you?
She explores how we come to know ourselves through other people’s judgments, labels, and expectations. Whether we were called the difficult child, the fixer, the shy one, the loud one, the good wife, the good mom, or the capable one, many of us build identities around what others have reflected back to us. Betrayal can rip those identities away and force us to ask who we are without the roles we once relied on.
Lora also reflects on the complicated nature of anniversaries. Some anniversaries are joyful, while others mark grief, shock, loss, or the end of a life we thought we were living. A podcast anniversary, a wedding anniversary, a D-Day anniversary, or a divorce anniversary can all bring mixed emotions. Rather than forcing those feelings to make sense, Lora invites listeners to honor the complexity of time, truth, grief, gratitude, and growth.
This episode also explores the importance of being proud of yourself, not only for the big wins, but for the quiet moments of survival, self-reflection, honesty, and repair. Lora discusses the difference between blame and self-awareness, especially when betrayed partners look back and recognize places where they were exhausted, over-functioning, resentful, controlling, self-sacrificing, or disconnected from their own truth. That reflection does not excuse betrayal or make the betrayed partner responsible for someone else’s choices. Instead, it creates an opportunity for reclamation.
Lora shares how resentment often reveals where we performed a role no one actually asked us to perform. Whether it was keeping the perfect house, being endlessly helpful, managing everyone else’s needs, or sacrificing ourselves to be seen as good, resentment can become a doorway into truth. It asks us to notice where we abandoned ourselves, where we hid our needs, and where we expected others to appreciate something we never clearly chose or communicated.
The episode also addresses a tender truth: sometimes we do not face reality because we do not yet have the capacity, safety, resources, support, legal clarity, emotional maturity, or nervous-system strength to deal with it. Humans minimize, rationalize, distract, stay busy, and bury their heads in the sand when the truth would require a decision, they are not ready or resourced enough to make. This can happen in the betrayed partner, and it can also happen in the partner who cheats. An affair may become a distraction from pain, dissatisfaction, or unresolved inner issues, but while that may explain behavior, it does not excuse the harm.
Ultimately, this anniversary episode is about truth as a doorway, not a weapon. It is about learning to speak truth to yourself first, then to others. It is about knowing when to show up, when to rest, when to ask better questions, when to respect someone else’s capacity, and when to stop outsourcing your identity to someone else’s judgment, betrayal, or approval.
After ten years of FLAUNT!, Lora returns to one central truth: someone else’s judgment is not a verdict. Someone else’s betrayal is not your identity. Truth may strip away fantasy and denial first, but it also creates the possibility of real self-definition.
Top 3 Takeaways
There is a difference between being exposed and revealing yourself.Betrayal exposes you without your consent. Healing is the process of choosing what you reveal, what you reclaim, what you protect, and what you no longer allow to define you.
Someone else’s judgment is not a verdict.Much of our identity is shaped through labels, roles, and reflections from others, but those labels do not have to define us forever. Confidence is the ability to stay connected to who you are, even when someone else misunderstands, judges, betrays, or fails to value you.
Truth requires capacity, and avoidance does not erase responsibility.Sometimes we do not face the truth because we do not yet have the resources, safety, support, or emotional capacity to deal with it. That may explain why people minimize, distract, rationalize, or avoid, but it does not excuse harm. Truth becomes healing when it is used as a doorway into responsibility, support, and reclamation.
Favorite Quotes
“Betrayal strips you without your consent. Healing is when you begin choosing what comes off and what goes back on.”
“Sometimes we bury our head in the sand because looking directly at the truth would require us to make a decision that we are either not ready to make or not resourced enough to make.”
