Candidiasis – Dragging Down Your Immune System – Carolyn Dean MD ND
Yeast overgrowth is another condition that’s ignored by modern medicine. It’s not a topic in medical school, yet it’s a huge immune suppressant because yeast produces 178 different yeast toxins that have to be processed and eliminated from the body. That work uses up nutrients and takes energy away from other body functions – mostly the immune system. That’s why it’s important to focus on yeast overgrowth in today’s show because this tiny, mighty organism opens the door to viral and bacterial infections.Candidiasis (yeast overgrowth) is nothing new; it’s been around for almost a century, ever since Alexander Fleming discovered Penicillin in 1928 and we began to use antibiotics in earnest in the 1940s. Yeast itself, a cousin to molds, has grown in human bodies since Adam and Eve. Candida albicans is the main yeast in the human body. It lives there happily enough, kept in check by beneficial bacteria in the intestines. These bacteria make vitamins and help digest excess sugar that gets past the small intestine. A very special group of bacteria make lactic acid, which protects the gut and vagina against yeast. It’s a very balanced ecosystem. However, when you begin taking antibiotics, this happy bacterial environment becomes unbalanced. Antibiotics wipe out most of the good along with the bad bacteria leaving yeast unharmed. In the absence of any competition, yeast colonies grow into all the empty nooks and crannies of the large intestine and even work their way into the small intestine. Sugar from our diet feeds yeast and with the special lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria wiped out of existence, there is no more production of lactic acid to protect the delicate intestinal and vaginal tissues from marauding yeast. It is a scientific fact that when yeast cells reach a certain critical mass they change from a round budding stage to a thread-like tissue invasive stage. They are simply running out of food and looking for more. They pack their bags and migrate from their main home in the large intestine into the small intestine. In the small intestine, the yeast threads poke holes in the intestinal lining. With this superhighway to the blood stream, there is nothing to stop yeast chemical by-products (all 178 of them), undigested food molecules, bacterial toxins, and other chemicals from taking a one-way ride. The holes are not necessarily big enough to allow yeast organisms to get into the blood stream, so there is no blood infection of yeast, just vast quantities of waste products that should be flushed down the toilet, that end up causing head-to-toe symptoms when they leak into the blood. That’s the definition of Leaky Gut, when toxins leak into the blood stream and tissues of the body. When these toxins hit the bloodstream, they trigger widespread inflammatory and allergy reactions. Many yeast toxins like aldehyde, alcohol, zymosan, arabinitol, and gliotoxin have been named. They impair the immune system and the central nervous system. Others block thyroid function, impair female hormones and cause symptoms of PMS, and aggravate menopause but haven’t yet been properly studied. Inflammation is being investigated as the underlying cause of heart disease, bowel disease, arthritic conditions, and autoimmune disease. It is also intimately involved with weight gain, fatigue, allergies, asthma, headaches, irritability, and dozens of other health complaints but medicine doesn’t even acknowledge that yeast toxins play a role in the creation of inflammation. The bottom line: Yeast Overgrowth will cause the immune system to overwork trying to deal with the toxic overload. The stress of inflammation also triggers the adrenal glands, which raises cortisol levels making weight gain another casualty of inflammation. You can’t lose weight when your cortisol levels are elevated due to chronic stress. That’s because the body perceives stress as an emergency and the worst emergency for the body is starvation-therefore it’s never going to give up an ounce of stored fat that it might need!Dr. Carolyn Dean has been educating people about yeast overgrowth since the early 1980s and has been recommending a dual approach to kill-off excessive yeast colonies in the body and restore the body’s natural balance and well-being. Step One – eliminate the foods that feed yeast and they begin to starve! Step Two involves restoring the body’s structure and function so your body can thrive again.
Tonight on our internet-based radio show we will talk about Candidiasis – Dragging Down Your Immune System. Top 6 Anti-Inflammatory Nutrients – Carolyn Dean MD ND
In medical school we learned about inflammation but not that it is a major cause of chronic disease. I’ve been saying this for years and now allopathic medicine is agreeing. An April, 2020 Medical News Today article says that inflammation contributes to the following chronic illnesses: metabolic syndrome, which includes type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.
If you Google my name and inflammation you’ll access a whole screen-full of blogs like “Excess Calcium Fuels Neuro-Inflammation.” “Magnesium The Safe and Natural Anti-inflammatory” In my book, The Magnesium Miracle, I mention inflammation 93 times. I’ve also warned that drug companies are constantly looking for “safe” anti-inflammatory drugs. They struck out with the NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) because they cause so many side effects – the worst of which is heart disease. But the deeper reason that many drugs have serious side effects is that they can cause magnesium deficiency – and therefore inflammation!
In addition to the essential role of magnesium, consider the role of the omega’s, vitamin A and E as well as zinc and vitamin D. And then consider, again, my recommendations for achieving the RDI’s [Recommended Daily Intake] for each of these anti-inflammatory co-factors through diet and supplementation with my Completement Formulas:
Magnesium
A breakthrough study from 2006 entitled Magnesium and the Inflammatory Response shows that at the cellular level, magnesium reduces inflammation. In the animal model used, magnesium deficiency is created when an inflammatory condition is produced. Increasing magnesium intake decreases inflammation.
In a more recent study [June 2017], therapeutic levels of magnesium supplementation are shown to have a positive anti-inflammatory effect in the body.
With magnesium being actively required by 1,000 enzyme systems in the human body, internal functions that reduce inflammation with the help of magnesium are being newly discovered every year. For example, magnesium has been found to be a natural calcium channel blocker, which is crucial because calcium in excess is one of the most pro-inflammatory substances in the body. This is why I recommend a 1:1 balance of calcium with magnesium, while also taking into account the amount of calcium people get in their daily diets.
Zinc
In addition to magnesium, zinc plays a critical role in controlling the inflammatory response. A study from researchers at Oregon State University has found that improving zinc status through diet and supplementation may reduce the risk of inflammatory diseases. It has been known for decades that zinc has a significant role in immune function and zinc deficiency has been linked to increased inflammation in chronic disease and triggering new inflammatory processes.
Omega Algae A+E
One of the tremendous benefits of saturation with essential fatty acids is lowering inflammation. They are both important fatty acid components of cell membranes that contribute to the structure, fluidity, flexibility, enzymatic activity, and signaling between cells. Vitamin A is one of the most common vitamin deficiencies in the world and also has a role as an anti-inflammatory agent. and vitamin E is a potent antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties.
When used properly, the omega’s along with vitamin A and E help reduce inflammation and improved the immune response. They increase the activation of macrophages, neutrophils, and dendritic cells (the first-responders that help identify pathogen or virus in the case of an infection), T-cells (that destroy the pathogen or virus), and B-cells (to remember the pathogen or virus and act immediately to destroy it in the case of a future infection), among others.
Vitamin D3
Beyond its critical function in calcium homeostasis, vitamin D has recently been found to play an important role in the modulation of the immune/inflammation system via regulating the production of inflammatory cytokines and inhibiting the proliferation of pro-inflammatory cells.
Lifestyle Choices
Lifestyle choices play a significant role in an individual’s susceptibility toward chronic inflammation as well. Dr. Dean points out, “Chronic, low-grade inflammation—sustained by excessive belly fat, a poor diet including processed foods and sugars, lack of exercise, smoking, and gum disease—may explain why lifestyle-related diseases have reached epidemic proportions in Western countries while remaining relatively scarce in the developing world.”
Incorporating nutrients is a choice one can make to prevent heart disease, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome which makes knowing about these nutrients vitally important.
Tonight on our LIVE podcast on YouTube, we’ll be talking with Dr. Carolyn Dean about her recommendations for controlling inflammation along with a wide range of health topics and safe solutions. You will love hearing the beneficial interactions with our callers and hosts alike including the body/mind connection, identifying the ‘conflict’ in the ‘conflict basis’ of disease, and much more!!

Magnesium- A Key Mineral for Cardiovascular Health– Carolyn Dean MD ND
Heart disease has become a dreaded condition because most people know it means a handful of medications and the certain knowledge that things are only going to get worse. But what if heart disease has a strong element of magnesium deficiency? What if you have magnesium deficiency and not heart disease? Magnesium deficiency is very common in people with a compromised cardiovascular system. In hospitals magnesium is administered for acute myocardial infarction and cardiac arrhythmia. Like any other muscle, the heart requires magnesium. Magnesium is also used to treat angina, or chest pain.
In your local clinic or practitioner’s office, their response to magnesium deficiency may be a little different. Magnesium’s role in preventing heart disease and strokes is accepted for acute conditions, with the use of IV magnesium, yet many cardiologists do not recognize and respond to magnesium deficiency conditions in their primary care protocols. After all, your doctor probably thinks magnesium pill is a laxative and certainly won’t do an ionized magnesium blood test to find out how much magnesium is in your cells working away at 1,000 enzyme processes and involved with 80% of known metabolic functions many of which contribute to cardiovascular health.
An average of 1,671 American’s die suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack every day. This is a pandemic! Millions of people are unaware they are walking on a very thin edge of the same health conditions as those who have transitioned- with high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and on several medications to avoid having a heart attack. Yet the treatments for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood sugar all deplete magnesium and cause worsening of these life-threatening cardiovascular conditions.
Magnesium acts by the same mechanisms as statin drugs to lower cholesterol. Every metabolic activity in the body depends on enzymes. Making cholesterol, for example, requires a specific enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase. Magnesium slows down this enzymatic reaction when you have enough cholesterol. HMG-CoA reductase is the same enzyme that statin drugs block. The mechanisms are nearly the same; however, magnesium is the natural way that the body has evolved to balance cholesterol when it reaches a certain level, whereas statin drugs are used to destroy the whole process.
This means that if sufficient magnesium is present in the body, cholesterol will be limited to its necessary functions—the production of hormones and the maintenance of cell membranes—and will not be produced in excess. Magnesium is also responsible for several other lipid-altering functions that are not even shared by statin drugs. Magnesium is necessary for the activity of an enzyme that lowers LDL, the “bad” cholesterol; it also lowers triglycerides and raises the “good” cholesterol, HDL. Another magnesium-dependent enzyme converts omega-3 and omega- 6 essential fatty acids into prostaglandins, which are required for heart and overall health.
At least 18 human studies have verified that magnesium supplements can have an extremely beneficial effect on lipids. In these studies, total cholesterol levels were reduced by 6 to 23 percent; LDL (bad) cholesterol were lowered by 10 to 18 percent; triglycerides fell by 10 to 42 percent; and HDL (good) cholesterol rose by 4 to 11 percent. Furthermore, the studies showed that low magnesium levels are associated with higher levels of “bad” cholesterol and high magnesium levels indicate an increase in “good” cholesterol.
In addition to the ‘traditional’ form of heart disease, heart rhythm issues plague many Americans as well. Atrial fibrillation is the most commonly diagnosed heart arrhythmia, reaching epidemic proportions. In the US, AFib hospitalizations increased by 23% between 2000 and 2010. In 2010 there were about 5.2 million people with A-Fib; that number is expected to escalate to 12.1 million cases in 2030.
Fortunately for us, Dr. Carolyn Dean has a pretty good idea of what’s going on and how to help millions of American’s suffering with magnesium deficiency symptoms that affect the structure and function of the cardiovascular system. Dr. Carolyn Dean has been helping educate the public and practitioners about the role of magnesium in proper heart function and, in Dan’s case, while he was waiting to see his doctor he learned quite a bit about how magnesium could support his health:
Hi, Dr. Dean. Three months ago, I was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation by my General Practitioner. I am not on drugs yet and I have been referred to a highly reputable cardiologist here in Northern California who has me wearing a heart monitor for two weeks to see what’s going on with the a-fib.
I am having to wait 2 months to meet with him to get the results and what he wants me to do for treatment. In the meantime, I found your booklet on A-Fib. This was very encouraging to read and I have started taking ReMag. I have noticed the heart palpitations when taking the magnesium are less or not at all and I have some days that are normal. I have had the RBC blood test and yes, my magnesium was low. I also had a cardio ultra sound and my heart is normal. I am very grateful to be making progress with ReMag and have more hope than before that I will be okay. Dan
The booklet on AFib is now called Heart Health and is a free download at www.drcarolyndeanlive.com.

HOUR 1
Happy, Bright, Calm Nutrition for Your Emotions -Carolyn Dean MD ND
Stress is a response to circumstances which force a person to act quickly, change, or make some adjustment to keep things in balance. The circumstance which forces a person to act is called a stressor. Stress is also defined as intense feelings created by the stimulus of certain events. When a person is stressed, his/her body automatically jumps into an action which is called a fight or flight response. Stress is further defined as an emotional and physical provocation caused by pressure from a given situation. The good news is that everybody faces stress to a certain extent and it is normal to be stressed since we are living in a world full of challenges. Stress causes our bodies to respond quickly and automatically jump into a defensive mode. It is quite normal to fight the stressor, or try to ignore it.
When we are stressed, our bodies immediately respond to the stressors by telling our nervous systems and stress hormones that it is time to act. When we face a threatening situation, our hypothalamus informs the adrenal glands to produce the hormones, adrenaline, and cortisol, and release them into the bloodstream. Adrenaline pumps you up but experiments using IV adrenaline show that it decreases magnesium as well as calcium, potassium, and sodium. Proving that when you are in a revved-up state and burning adrenaline, you are also burning off magnesium.
There are more than a dozen major metabolic processes that are affected by bursts of adrenaline, including heart rate, blood pressure, blood vessel constriction, and contraction of all muscles, including the heart. Thus, we feel palpitations, shortness of breath, and we may experience high blood pressure. All these symptoms are the body’s reaction to stress. In order to fight or flee, our blood vessels open wide, thus allowing more blood to flow to the muscles and stored glucose from the liver pours into the blood stream for extra energy. And, of course, each of these functions uses up extra vitamins and minerals.
Anxiety can occur as a result of this outpouring of adrenaline. It can also be created when fear is present – fears stemming from predictable or unpredictable situations, which may be real or imaginary. Anxiety is a common human emotion, part and parcel of our everyday life. Anxiety is about worries, concerns, nervousness, and stress. In fact, to feel anxious occasionally is fine because it prepares us to be ready for actual challenges. But persistent and prolonged stress that creates anxiety is extremely draining – especially when a doctor tries to treat it with medication instead of magnesium and stress counseling.
Yes, one powerful, positive response to protecting your heart and mind from excessive and overwhelming stress is appropriate nutritional support.
If your stress, anxiety, or panic is rooted in a nutritional deficiency, good news is coming your way. Dr. Carolyn Dean, author of The Magnesium Miracle [2017 Edition] knows that nutritional supplementation is a safe, effective solution to support the total well-being of the body and balance the fight or flight response to stress and anxiety. Consistent, daily use of highly absorbed minerals and food-based vitamins are clinically shown to induce a feeling of calm and wellness as your nutritionally depleted body experiences relief.

Safe Detox and the Skin -Carolyn Dean MD ND
There is no practical way to avoid all the toxins in the environment. You would have to live the rest of your life in a hermetically sealed suit (and it would be a short life since you couldn’t eat or drink.) Fortunately, it’s not so bad because there are ways to counteract many toxins and pollutants.
The organ systems of the body that protect the body are the skin, lungs, liver, kidneys, lymph and colon. Under normal circumstances, the skin and lungs along with the rest of the body are performing detox functions every minute of every day in an orchestration worthy of Carnegie Hall. But by far, the skin is the largest detox organ.
Under abnormal circumstances, plans to support the body’s defense mechanisms should be deployed! Protecting the skin, lungs, colon, liver, kidneys and lymph system can be done effectively and naturally, with vitamins, minerals, and botanicals.
Doctors deny the necessity of external forms of detoxification – maybe because they think these 6 organs have it all under control? However, today, the skin and lungs as well as the gut, liver and kidneys are hard pressed to keep up with all the toxins, refined foods, viral pathogens, chemical contaminants, and pharmaceutical drugs the body is exposed to.
My approach to detoxification is to enhance what these organs are already valiantly trying to do as we continue to live in this world exposed to environmental toxins, viruses, medications, processed foods and water, and the outgassing of the electric environment.
The best defense is a good offense! Using nature as your guide it’s easy to be proactive on a daily basis to safely navigate your life and minimize your health risks.
Tonight on her LIVE You-tube podcast show, we'll be talking with Dr. Carolyn Dean about Safe Detox and the Skin along with a wide range of health topics and safe solutions. You will love hearing the beneficial interactions with callers and hosts alike including the emotional and spiritual side of health and medicine.

The Magnesium and Protein Miracle-Carolyn Dean MD ND
Magnesium plays many important roles in the structure and the function of the human body. The adult human body contains about 25 grams of magnesium. Over 60% of all the magnesium in the body is found in the skeleton, about 27% is found in muscle, 6% to 7% is found in other cells, and less than 1% is found outside of cells in the blood.
Magnesium’s Role in Protein Synthesis
Magnesium is necessary for protein synthesis at the ribosomal level. The ribosomes are the cellular organelles where proteins are synthesized. Magnesium “activates” the amino acids involved and allows the mRNA to attach to the ribosomes. Magnesium is also found in the nucleus of the cell and is essential for the stability of the nucleic acids RNA and DNA. If DNA and RNA structure do not remain stable you may have mutations in the code and produce incorrect peptides or none at all during protein synthesis. Energy for the production of proteins must come from ATP as well. You have heard me say a hundred times that magnesium is required in 6 of the 8 steps of the Krebs Cycle to make ATP. Without magnesium being available in many areas of the cell, protein synthesis cannot occur.
The Role of Protein in the Body
We are just one big page of protein and it’s true! Muscle, hair, skin, and connective tissue are mainly made up of protein. Protein is not only critical to every single cell in your body, but also is part of the structure and function of hormones, enzymes, antibodies – just about everything your body produces. Protein allows the neurotransmitters on our cells to communicate with each other. Additionally, on the macro level, eating protein slows down the absorption of glucose into the bloodstream, lowering elevated blood sugar levels, lowering insulin, and helping the body burn fat.
I try not to get too involved in the debate as to which source of protein is “the best” – animal or plant based – because I believe it’s an individual choice based on results. If the results of a vegetarian diet are that you feel great, then it’s a good choice for you. But if it makes you feel unhealthy, then add other foods.
Your protein sources should be chosen from the highest quality food you can find – organic, natural, free range, grass fed, GMO and hormone free. The “cleaner” the food source, the more availability of valuable nutrients for your body.
How Do You Know If I’m Getting Enough Protein?
I write extensively about vitalizing foods in my wellness modules including a segment on The Power of Protein. Here is a list of signs you are not getting enough protein:
Apathy, irritability, and a spaced-out feeling
Lack of muscle mass and weakness
Low blood sugar (or constant high and low blood sugar)
Diarrhea and intolerance to dairy products
Lack of stomach acid leading to gas and bloating
Low body temperature
Cravings for meat, peanut butter, eggs, dairy, nuts, or beans
Poor condition of nails and/or hair
Conversely, here is a list of evidence that you are getting too much protein:
Your meals consist almost exclusively of meat, eggs, or dairy
Osteoporosis
Kidney problems
Kidney stones
Dehydration – even when you are drinking lots of water
Ketones in your urine
Chronic bad breath
Joint pain
Constipation
Indigestion
Here’s how you can determine the number of grams of protein you need to eat each day to stay balanced:
Metric Version: Multiply your ideal body weight in kilograms by 0.8. So, if a healthy weight for you would be 70kg you need 70 x 0.8 = 56g of protein a day. Multiply by 2 for growing infants. Multiply by 1.2 for growing adolescents.
Imperial Version: Multiply your ideal body weight in pounds by 0.35. So, if a healthy weight for you would be 110 lbs. you need 110 x 0.35 = 39g of protein a day. Multiply by 0.9 for growing infants. Multiply by 0.54 for growing adolescents.
Getting perfect, pure magnesium and perfect whole protein together is magical for our bodies in many ways. Tonight on our internet based radio show, we’ll be talking with Dr. Carolyn Dean about how The Magnesium AND Protein Miracle along with a wide range of health topics and safe solutions for vitality and well-being. You will love hearing the beneficial interactions with our callers and hosts alike including the body/mind connection, identifying the ‘conflict’ in the ‘conflict basis’ of disease and much more!!
